Pop Music.

Recently, i realized why I hate pop music so much. It’s mainly caused by the ‘unchanged’ and uncreative instrument playing method. Yet, I totally changed my mind recently!

Pop music is a trend of music. Every era has a different trend on music, and i call this pop music. For every era, their pop music will be sharing the same type of composing and singing methods. And they are, as well, sharing a roughly same idea-trying to reveal the ‘current’ state of social or art status. It can include what ordinary middle class society hoping for, or what teenagers think of ‘love’. Or it’s just a mere fantasy-fantasy in different era is very different! It’s another kind of human history on everything. Some composers tend to write out their feel on what happens via a very literary style, some just ordinary white words. I’ll prefer those parables.

Perhaps we could know more about current state of socio-economy and art via music. Art is always a more relaxing method to understand what happens around us, the thoughts of writers and to play around with!

yes, you got the point.

what you say, covered in the studies of sociology of pop culture, in NUS sociology department.

just contrast 方 文山 和 李宗盛的歌詞, then you know, as time passed by, how changes done to the literary expression thro the lyrics,,,

it reflects contemporary spirit...時代精神...

Thanks for the comment.

I c, actually, if i'm not mistaken, the church worship music is having this kind of trend as well. The lyrics changes from God-centered(ancient time) to Human-centered(currently).

well actually when u say human centered what does it imply.. cause there are lyrics that are God centered too.. in a sense humans feelings towards worshiping God.. so its like a mix of both.. i do agree last time(ancient time) .. it is all very God centered.. now it is like the songs are better written or a better version of it.. lol.. but still the main point is to praise God...

Ya, actually many argue against this. The difference is there, but the worship heart of human is as well still there.

As long as we worship God with all our heart, word doesn't play much role in it, isn't it?

Yet, at the same time, some too personal-centered christian song is meant for personal used, and not for churches' mass worshiping purpose. It considers the venue.

Researching on church music history, there are some signs of contemporary spirit in most of the mainstream church music (modern hillsong vs hymn). For me, it's unavoidable nor need to be avoided.

Thx for the comment.

true... there is unsur-unsur contemporary in today's christian music... maybe cause the younger generation is a "feel" kinda generation..ppl just worship differently.. so yup its unavoidable nor need to be avoided cause it ain't really a threat..

p/s: i feel old all of a sudden... dunno y

So, there is a contemporary spirit in it, but it's not God-centered to human-centered.

Is it?
